Advent Celebrations: On Monday mornings during December, we will be gathering together in the Learning Commons to celebrate Advent. During the celebrations, students, staff and guests will be lighting Advent candles, listening to scripture, praying and singing. The 20 minute celebrations will begin at 9:15 for students in Grades 2-6, and at 9:45 for Kindergarten and Grade 1 students. If you are able to join us on December 1st, 8th or 15th, please do.
Advent Project: In past years, our school community has helped to support a variety of great charitable causes. Recognizing that needs exist right here in Orleans, and within our school as well, we have decided to focus our fundraising efforts this Advent on putting together Christmas hampers for local families. We will be collecting donations of cash, coins and Canadian tire money, and then using the funds to purchase gifts and other necessities for families in our school community. Donations can be sent in between now and December 16th. Mrs. Birch’s students will be tallying the donations, and staff will be heading out to purchase items for our families. Any extra donations will be given, on your behalf, to Toy Mountain.
Reconciliation: On December 9th, Father Shroff will be here with a few other priests to provide students in Grades 3 to 6 with the opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation. Also, at 1pm, Father Shroff will be leading a new tradition at St. Kateri, the Grade 4 Bible Ceremony.
Canned Food Drive: We will also be collecting non-perishable food donations for the Gloucester Food Cupboard during the month of December. Items (including baby food and diapers) can be sent to school at any time. We will also be collecting items at upcoming special events like the Movie Night on December 5th, at Family Advent Mass on December 11th, the Choir Concert on December 16th, and during the Kindergarten Craft Day on December 18th.
Family Advent Mass: Please join our school community as well as Chapel Hill and Good Shepherd school communities for our 4th annual Family Advent Mass. The Mass takes place on the evening of December 11th at Good Shepherd Church, beginning with a few carols at 6:15, followed by Mass. Everyone who attends is invited to bring along a plate of nut-free treats (cookies, squares, etc.) to share during the after mass social. Choir members are asked to arrive at church by 6:00.
Many thanks for your support and generosity!
