Principal’s Message As we begin the 2016-2017 school year, a special welcome is extended to newcomers and a “welcome back” to staff, pupils and families of St. Kateri Tekakwitha School. Have a great year everyone! Prayer for the New School Year Lord, we greet this new school year with gratitude and hope, We welcome this opportunity to be advocates of Your love and kindness With the students you entrust to our care and the Colleagues with whom we work. Give us the wisdom to lead together, Show us how to lift one another when we fall And laugh and celebrate successes with humility. Donne-nous la générosité du don de soi, de la reconnaissance et appréciation des dons et de la bonté de l’autre. Give us the knowledge and confidence To speak and do what is right; And to open our hearts to new ways of thinking Of doing and of being. Give us the goodness and the full measure of your strength So that we can be instruments of peace; Messengers of hope; And champions of the child. We ask this of you In love.
Meet the Teacher Night Dear Parents, Our Meet the Teacher/Program Night will be held on Thursday, September 15th. Introductions will commence in the gymnasium at 6:00 and teacher presentations will begin at 6:10. Teachers will do a second presentation at 6:30-6:50 for those families with more than one child. See you then!
Activity Fees This year St. Kateri will continue a pay-per-use system rather than an Activity Fee. There will be no initial fee for families rather students will pay for activities, field trips etc as they occur. The first fee for families is to cover the cost of the student agendas. The cost is ten dollars. You are encouraged register for and to use our School Cash Online. Please pay online by October 14th. Currently it is important to check School Cash Online for updates as the notification feature is experiencing some hiccups! The milk and pizza will also be available to purchase by Friday, September 9th.
Office Updates Start and End Times School starts at 9:15am. No students are permitted on the school grounds until there is a staff member on duty which begins at 9am. First recess is 10:30-10:45. Lunch 12:00-1:00 and last recess 2:15-2:30. If possible please try to contact the office before or after the lunch hour, as there is volunteer supervision during this timeframe. Did your child forget their lunch? Homework? Anything? In order to minimize interruptions to the class please leave items on the shelf next to the office and your child will come to the office during lunch to collect their belongings. When possible, please inform your child that you will be dropping items off for them so they are aware to come to the office
Safe Schools Update Our first of six fire drills will be held on Monday, September 12th. Our first lockdown drill is scheduled for Thursday, September 23rd.
Board Spiritual Theme This is the first year for the new spiritual theme ‘Sent to be the Good News’. The logo for this spiritual theme denotes the mission of Jesus Christ and the apostles walking the dusty roads of the Holy Land to bring Good News to the world. This image can remind us of our pilgrimages through this life in walking the road of faith and witnessing this faith to others.
